Recipe: 4 Flavour Ideas For Banana ‘Ice Cream’

4_ways_with_banana_ice_cream
One ingredient is all that’s needed to create this deliciously smooth ice cream replica – it’s really quite magical. It’s also super easy to customise and flavour, so we’ve whipped up a few simple ideas to get you started…

You Will Need:

  • 2 small ripe bananas per serving
  • 1/4 cup almond or oat milk
  • (optional) good quality vanilla extract

To make banana ice cream, you simply finely slice and then freeze a banana or two. We buy big bunches and the stragglers that are too ripe to eat at the end get frozen in sandwich bags for ice cream at a later date.
When you’re ready to make ice cream, just pull a bag out of the freezer and empty into a food processor with a little almond milk to help the bananas blend. You may need to scrape the sides down 2 or 3 times but your patience will be rewarded within minutes as the bananas transform into a creamy frozen dessert. Serve immediately or try some of our flavour add-on’s for something more exciting.

Mint Choc Chip
Blend two chopped and frozen bananas with a dash of peppermint extract then swirl through a few spoonfuls of dark chocolate chips and voila, a classic.

Caramel Chocolate
Blend one pitted Medjool date and one teaspoon of raw cacao powder with your frozen bananas for a deliciously sweet caramel and chocolate flavour.

Super Berry
Add a handful of raspberries or blueberries and 1 teaspoon of acai berry powder for ice cream that’s basically a superfood.

Vanilla Chia
Super simple and delicious; add 1/4 of a teaspoon of vanilla bean paste (we found ours in Waitrose but a good quality extract will work well too) while you’re blending up your ice cream and then swirl through a heaped teaspoon of chia seeds for some crunch, fibre and an omega hit!

Will you be trying this?
