We’re dreaming of booking a last minute getaway over the next few weeks, as the Christmas mania sets in! If you’re also considering taking a trip with your other half or even a group of friends, here’s how to do it…
Consider A Staycation
Why leave the British Isles when you have some of the best places right on your doorstep? Dublin is truly magical for a weekend away, and Edinburgh is a must see for New Year celebrations!
London is always a great choice for a fun-packed weekend, and there’s also Brighton for a cute getaway and Glasgow if you’re going to party. Ask around and see what friends recommend, you can even go to the next city and see the sights.
Head To Europe
Of course, Europe is always a great place to travel to if you fancy getting out of the UK. Berlin, Paris, Prague, Copenhagen and Amsterdam are always worth a visit, and they’ll be even more magical during the Christmas period.
Think about what you want from your break and go from there!
Get Tech Savvy
As much as we hate that expression ‘tech savvy’, it’s a good idea to get clued up on the latest Apps so you can search for the best offers. We recommend the EasyJet app for booking cheap flights, as well as Skyscanner so you can do one quick sweep of the cheapest flights for when you’re planning to go.
It’s also a good idea to check the weather for your destination, because well, it’s winter.
Pick Your Date
If you’re off for the duration of the festive period, be flexible with your travel dates – and be willing to travel on New Year’s Day, these flights are often the cheapest so snap them up if you don’t mind. Go back through your Apps and see when you can get the best deals with accommodation and flights – a two-day trip away won’t set you back too much and it will be just the time you need to feel revived!
Sort Out Accommodation
It may be easy to jump on a last minute flight, but it’s a good idea to check the prices on hotels etc. before you dive in. Everywhere gets a little pricey over the festive season so keep this in mind – we recommend searching for boutique hotels, perhaps a little out of the centre of town but still with good transport.
There’s also lastminute.com for all the deals – hook yourself up with a secret hotel and see where that takes you, or browse through your choices.
Don’t forget about Airbnb, this is a favourite with the Nouvelle team as it’s super easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. You can find truly beautiful apartments for a good price per night, and there’s so much to choose from!
Of course, there’s always family and friends who may be away for the festive season or wish to house swap for the weekend. Ask around and see if anyone wants a couple of guests or even a house-sitter.
Wherever you end up, we’re sure you’ll have a great time!
